This Orange Wine is one of the favorite Apéritifs you will find in France. In the last century you gave an “Apéritif” to people that had no Appetite ! Today, it is surely appreciated at the beginning and also at the end of a lunch or a dinner…
First, here is the list of the different Ingredients you will need to make the Orange Wine for 1 Liter
- 3 oranges washed and dried
- 250 g (8 oz) cube sugar
- 1 liter (1 3/4 pints) dry white wine
- 1/4 l (1 cup) brandy
Now, here are the few steps you will need to follow to make the Orange Wine
Use a sharp knife or a zest maker to remove the thin outside zest of the oranges which contains the aromatic oils and flavour. Take care not to include any of the white pith layer under the skin of the orange.
Put the orange zest in a jar with a screw-top. Add the brandy, no more than 50°. Seal the jar and leave in a warm place for 15 days, making sure that regularly during this time you briefly shake the jar.
Strain the liquid and press the zest. Add sugar to the wine and let it melt. Mix both liquids then filter it and pour it in a big bottle. Screw it up and let it get old for at least 2 month.
This orange wine is even better when you taste it after on year or two.
