This Torta de Laranja or Orange Roll is a typical cake from Portugal and that I really appreciate even if the amount of sugar has been much reduced here… It is quick and easy to make and everybody will love it !
First, here is the list of the different ingredients you will need to prepare the Torta de Laranja or Orange Roll that serves 4 to 6
- 200 ml or 1 cup orange juice
- 195 g or 7 oz caster sugar
- 20 g or 1 big Tbsp corn starch
- 5 large farm eggs
- the grated zest of one orange
- Some butter for the tin
Now, here are the few steps you will need to follow to make this Torta de Laranja with 20 minutes of preparation and 20 minutes of cooking.
Start by preheating the oven to 170 °C or 335 °F. Butter then line a rectangular tin with parchment paper. Then, mix the caster sugar with the corn starch. Add the orange juice and zest.
Then add the eggs that you will have beaten vigorously before. Mix well so that everything is homogeneous. Pour this mixture into the rectangular tin. Put in your preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
As soon as your cake is golden brown and still soft, remove from the oven. Turn up side down onto a clean kitchen towel sprinkled with caster sugar. Wrap the cake on itself using the kitchen towel. Let cool completely, then refrigerate for 2 hours.
