Onion Soup au Gratin is a winter soup, rich in vitamins A, B and especially C. Onions are full of minerals (Potassium and Phosphorus) and trace elements (Iron and Zinc). - 4 Large onions (or 5 medium ones)
- 100 g or 4 oz grated Gruyère
- 4 slices country bread
- 1liter or 4 1/4 cups chicken stock
- 20 g or about 1 oz butter
- 1 tbsp.t flour
- Salt and Pepper from the mill
Now, here are the few steps you will need to follow to make this Onion Soup au Gratin with a 15 minutes preparation time and a 30 minutes or so cooking time
Peel the onions and cut them into thin slices.
Melt the butter in a saucepan and cook the onions for a few minutes until they are golden brown.
Sprinkle the onions with flour, mix and cook for 30 seconds.
Add salt, pepper and pour in the broth. Cover and cook for about 30 minutes.
Pour the soup into 4 individual ovenproof bowls.
Arrange the slices of country bread on the soup, sprinkle with grated Gruyère cheese and grill for a few minutes. Serve immediately and enjoy!
